Data & Methodology
How prices, percentages, and signals on this site are sourced and calculated. Read this once, trust the numbers forever.
Price data
Spot prices, market caps, and volumes on dmcnews.org are sourced from CoinGecko's public market API. CoinGecko aggregates spot prices across exchanges weighted by liquidity. Prices on the site are refreshed every 60 seconds; the ticker bar refreshes every 15 seconds.
Where indicated, we may fall back to CoinMarketCap for cross-validation. Price differences between aggregators are typically <0.3% in normal markets; differences exceeding 1% during a fast move trigger an editorial review of the data shown.
Percentage changes
1h, 24h, 7d and 30d percentage changes are calculated against the spot price at exactly that interval earlier (UTC). They are USD-denominated unless otherwise noted. Percentage figures are rounded to two decimals for display.
Market dominance
BTC dominance and ETH dominance are each asset's market cap divided by the total cryptocurrency market cap, expressed as a percent. Total market cap excludes wrapped tokens, USD-pegged stablecoins, and dead chains where CoinGecko has flagged them.
Fear & Greed Index
The index value displayed comes from alternative.me. It is a composite of volatility (25%), market momentum and volume (25%), social media sentiment (15%), surveys (15% — paused), BTC dominance (10%), and Google Trends data (10%). Values range 0 (extreme fear) to 100 (extreme greed). We treat the index as a contrarian signal at extremes, not as a directional forecast.
Heatmap
Tile size is proportional to market cap weight in the top 100. Color intensity scales linearly from −10% (saturated red) through 0% (neutral) to +10% (saturated green). Moves beyond ±10% are clipped at the saturation extreme to avoid one outlier dominating the visual.
Top movers
Gainers and losers are computed from the top 250 by market cap, then filtered to coins with 24h volume > $5,000,000 to exclude thinly-traded outliers. Trending coins come from CoinGecko's /search/trending endpoint — these are the most-searched coins on CoinGecko in the past 24 hours, not the most-traded.
Reading-time and word counts
Reading time uses a 230-words-per-minute estimate and rounds up to the nearest minute. Word counts exclude HTML markup, attribution lines, and disclosure text.
Calendar events
Macro events (CPI, FOMC, NFP, ECB) come from official agency calendars. Token unlocks are cross-checked between protocol-published schedules and the on-chain vesting contracts where available. Exchange listings are sourced only from the exchange's own official announcement — we don't republish unconfirmed listing rumors.
On-chain data
Where we cite on-chain metrics (exchange balances, supply flows, contract events), we link to a block explorer transaction or a publicly-readable contract. We use Etherscan, Mempool.space, Solscan, and others appropriate to the chain. Aggregated on-chain analytics (e.g., realized cap, MVRV) cite the provider we sourced them from.
What we don't do
- We do not estimate prices we can't source.
- We do not interpolate missing data.
- We do not back-date corrections to historical charts.
- We do not use chart screenshots from unverifiable sources.
