Frequently asked questions about BNB
What is BNB (BNB)?
BNB (BNB) is a cryptocurrency listed on global exchanges and tracked across major data providers. It currently ranks #4 among all cryptocurrencies by total market value. Live price, market cap, trading volume, and historical performance are displayed on this page and refreshed continuously.
How does BNB work?
BNB is the native token of BNB Chain — formerly Binance Smart Chain — which uses a Proof of Staked Authority (PoSA) consensus model. 21 validators are selected per epoch to produce blocks; validators must stake BNB and are selected weighted by stake. Block time is ~3 seconds. BNB is also used to pay trading fees on Binance Exchange (with a discount), purchase tokens during launchpad sales, and access ecosystem applications. BNB has a quarterly auto-burn mechanism that permanently reduces total supply based on BNB price and BNB Chain block production until 100 million BNB remain.
How much BNB is in circulation?
There are currently 134,785,142 BNB in circulation out of a maximum supply of 200,000,000, meaning approximately 67.4% of the total BNB that will ever exist has been issued. New tokens enter circulation through the protocol's pre-defined emission schedule.
How can I buy BNB?
BNB (BNB) is traded on most major cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, Coinbase, Kraken, OKX, Bybit, and Bitstamp. Availability depends on your jurisdiction and the exchange's listings. After purchase, many users transfer their BNB to a self-custody wallet for long-term storage. This information is educational and does not constitute investment advice.
Is BNB a good investment?
Cryptocurrencies, including BNB, are highly volatile and carry significant risk of loss. Whether BNB is appropriate for a given portfolio depends on the investor's individual risk tolerance, time horizon, and financial situation. Always research the project's fundamentals, understand the risks, and only allocate capital you can afford to lose. This page provides market data only, not personalised investment advice. Consider consulting a licensed financial advisor before making investment decisions.
How is BNB different from Bitcoin?
Bitcoin (BTC) was the first cryptocurrency, designed primarily as a digital store of value and peer-to-peer payment network with a fixed supply of 21 million coins. BNB (BNB) focuses on different design goals, with a different technical design, supply schedule, and ecosystem. Bitcoin derives its value primarily from scarcity, security, and brand recognition, while BNB's value is tied to adoption within its specific use case and underlying network effects.
